UKIP Manchester Secretary
Hello! I am the secretary of UKIP Manchester. I was, until recently, the secretary of UKIP Stretford & Urmston. S&U was a new branch, and I stood as the Stretford & Urmston parliamentary Candidate in the 2015 General election (I came third). I continue to be an active part of the UKIP Stretford & Urmston branch, but I live in Manchester, so it was more appropriate for me to join the Manchester branch and let a local Stretford & Urmston member to take my place as secretary of that branch.
I am also the secretary of UKIP Greater Manchester. Phil, the chairman of UKIP Manchester, is the co-chair of UKIP Greater Manchester. We both enjoy immensely working with the UKIP Branches across Greater Manchester (and throughout the UK). I am also a very proud member of the UKIP LGBT group.
I have my own website:
www.kalvinchapman.co.uk I set the website up for the election in 2015. Since then it has served as the UKIP Stretford & Urmston branch and a place where I can upload blogs about my views on matters that of interest and some importance to me. It continues to help and support UKIP Stretford & Urmston, but will now include many UKIP Manchester issues also.
My role in UKIP Manchester is to ensure the UKIP Manchester branch complies with the constitution, abides by the rules and ensure that all meetings and all votes are undertaken in compliance with those rules. It is my job to provide legal advice to the UKIP Manchester branch, such as ensuring we have registered with the Information Commissioner's Office so that we can process people's data in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
During the day I am a solicitor. My job predominantly revolves around suing banks on behalf of small & medium sized businesses in England & Wales. Much of my website looks at matters involving banks and the 2007/08 banking crisis. i do not deal with low level work such as PPI. I also deal with the usual commercial litigation (again, predominantly for SME businesses) such as partnership or company disputes, data protection issues, contractual disputes and some weird and diverse claims that arise. I have been quoted in the Times, Telegraph, Financial Times and the Law Gazette. I love my job, though I would absolutely prefer to be an MP and represent the people of the North West.
